Rostherne Church Service December 2022

This year it was good to welcome so many people to St Mary's where we were able to enjoy a wonderful evening of carols, readings and music. Unlike last year, the members of the Mereside Brass Band were able to play inside the church. The service was held under current Covid guidelines with the congregation wearing masks and sitting well spaced. This also meant that we were unable to offer everyone our usual refreshments after the service. A big thank you to our organist, Andrew Bailey, the Mereside Brass Band, our singing group, those who read the lessons, to Patricia who organised the service and everyone else who worked so hard to make this the best evening it could be under the present restrictions. The recording begins with two organ pieces played by Andrew - Toccata on Joy to the World, and Angel of Peace (short and quiet to lead into the service).

"Gary Curtin Steps In" 18th April 2014

Gary Curtin

Black Dyke's Euphonium Player Gary Curtin stepped in to conduct Mereside Brass at the last minute on Friday.  Our regular conductor Mike Phenton was unable to attend the rehearsal so Gary kindly took the band through their paces in his absence.  He focused heavily during the first half of  the rehearsal on the band playing together as a team, the band now all remember to breathe together and start together!  He then spent the remaining part of the rehearsal building Mereside's Concert Programme and helping the bands soloist perfect their recitals.  The feedback from the band was exceptional on what was a fun and stretching rehearsal.  Gary even enjoyed the social side of Mereside Brass in the Golden Pheasant  afterwards!

From all at Mereside  Brass, Thank You Gary for a great rehearsal and helping us out on such short notice.
